TREEmendous Lawndale

TREEmendous Lawndale is a project of the GROWSS committee that aims to increase the tree canopy of North Lawndale over the next ten years. We aim to plant enough trees and go from the current 17% tree canopy to a healthy 60%. Planting trees will bring us greener streets along with that a healthier community, cooler spaces that provide shade from a strong sun, and an overall better quality of life.

TREEmendous Lawndale has a teams of “tree ambassadors” that are working with the Chicago’s Our Roots as well at the Chicago Region Tree Initiative in order to have trees planted. Our four organizations
that are stewarding these ambassadors are I am Able, Stone Temple Baptist Church, YMEN and St. Agatha Catholic Church. Other organizations leading the TREEmendous effort are Trust for Public Land, Lincoln Park Zoo, the Morton Arboretum and Homan Grown.

Over the next year, we will have a number of workshops and field trips that highlight the benefits of
trees, from biological to social to therapeutic. Come and join us in our field trips listed below! Questions
about events and getting involved? Email us at atreemendouslanwndale@gmail.com.
