About TREEmendous:
TREEmendous Lawndale champions that a healthy community has a healthy tree canopy. We aim to work with community to support a healthier urban tree canopy and build resident support for trees in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago.
TREEmendous Lawndale is an umbrella organization for all tree-related happenings in the neighborhood; all who do work to spread a love for trees, care for trees, plant new trees, etc in North Lawndale are a part of the TREEmendous movement.
TREEmendous is planning a variety of workshops, educational initiatives, field trips, and more for 2025. If you'd like to get involved, propose a collaboration, or have us market/post about a tree-related initiative you're working on, please email treemendouslawndale@gmail.com or DM us on Instagram.

More About TREEmendous:
TREEmendous Lawndale is a project of the NLCCC GROWSS Committee. TREEmendous started as its own initiative of GROWSS around 2020. Dr. Carolyn L. Vessel, leader of I am Able, coined the term TREEmendous. TREEmendous builds upon the legacy of the Oaks of North Lawndale initiative that started in 2017. The Oaks of North Lawndale was an effort inspired by the German artist Joseph Beuys’s 7000 Oaks land art project and led through a partnership between the School of the Art Institute and community groups and stakeholders.
TREEmendous Lawndale has teams of Tree Ambassadors as part of Our Root Chicago's Tree Ambassador Program in collaboration with both the City of Chicago and the Morton Arboretum's Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI). Tree Ambassadors receive training, funding, and priority status to request trees to be planted in public parkways by the City of Chicago via the CHI 311 app. You can learn more about the Tree Ambassador program here.
North Lawndale's four organizations that have stewarded Tree Ambassadors are I am Able, Stone Temple Baptist Church, YMEN and St. Agatha Catholic Church. Other organizations leading the TREEmendous effort are the Trust for Public Land, Lincoln Park Zoo, the Morton Arboretum, and Homan Grown.
